When I started building my business, I did what many of us do: I looked to the "successful" ones for guidance. You know the type...slick marketing, high-ticket offers, luxury photoshoots, and a promise that you too could have a 7-figure business if you followed their blueprint.


And like many others, I bought in. Literally.


I hired a coach who looked like they had it all together. Their messaging was magnetic, their testimonials impressive, and they claimed to want the best for their clients. But from the inside? It didn’t feel right.


They pushed strategies that felt manipulative. Their version of "support" was just pressure to perform. There was no room for nuance, no genuine curiosity about my business or values. It was all about hitting numbers and scaling, even if it meant sacrificing my family, the client experience or burning out the team.


I realized I wasn’t just misaligned with their methods—I was misaligned with their motives.


What I Saw Behind the Curtain

More recently, I worked behind the scenes for a high-ticket "7-figure" coach, someone who had charm, presence, and a $5K program that promised clients wild success if they just paid to play. She talked big results, big breakthroughs, and sold the dream like a pro.


Here’s the thing: she knew nothing about her clients' actual operations. Her advice was vague at best and damaging at worst. And her own backend? A disaster. No systems, constant scrambling, and despite her flashy image... not even a profitable business.


It was all smoke and mirrors.


Working as an operations manager, I’ve had the unique (and sometimes heartbreaking) privilege of seeing behind the scenes of many online businesses. And here’s what no one wants to admit:


A lot of entrepreneurs who say they care about their clients are really chasing the next big payday. Their marketing speaks of empowerment and transformation, but internally? It’s chaos. Burnt-out teams, high client churn, and systems built on shaky ground.


And the worst part? The clients can feel it. Even if they can’t always articulate what’s wrong, they know when something feels off.
